Refining the oil debate

(Photo is of oil executives lying to Congress)

The past few days in our local newspaper, local dummies have been ranting about the bad, bad Democrats who won't let our government give the OK for their favorite oil companies to drill for oil in Alaska or off of our coasts.

These morons argue that with a little bit of drilling, we're gonna be swimming in that black gold and everybody can drive a Hummer! Sean Hannity of Fox News, along with other nitwits, continues to tell the false tale that the Chinese Commies in cahoots with the Cubans are drilling right off our shores.

So why can't we drill, whine the local yokels?

McCain, or McBush as he is more rightly known, being an Arizona yokel, is lined up with the dummies. Down in Houston, he gave a speech arguing that we must lift the 27-year-old moratorium on offshore exploration. (He neglected to say that he supported the ban back in 2000, nor did he indicate what made him change his mind.) Flip-flop!!!!

McBush also called for a suspension of federal taxes on gasoline for the summer. Maybe he's working for the oil companies because as we've noted before, such a suspension of taxes would not only not benefit the American consumer but would actually put more money in the pockets of the oil barons!

Obama told the world just what an idiot McBush really is. (He didn't say that, of course. He didn't have to.) He said rather that the gas tax suspension would save only pennies. There's a mere 3% of the world's oil offshore of the United States. To open offshore sites for drilling not only risks the destruction of the environment but would not provide any oil to benefit American consumers for at least 10 years and even then would not make a dent toward solving the problem!

In other words, the push to allow offshore drilling is quite simply nothing more than a ploy to provide the oil corporations with an opportunity to make even more excessive profits. And Obama seems to be the only candidate who knows that or cares. Hell, what with all of McBush's lobbyist connections, he's probably in the pocket of the oil companies!

Here's a site that provides a few more details of McBush's incoherent oil-crisis strategy.
