Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran

This from Scholars and Rogues.

The number one decision-maker in the Bush administration, next to Bush hisself, is Dick Cheney. Last August, Dick proposed that the United States "launch air strikes at suspected training camps for Iraqi fighters in Iran. 'Pentagon officials argued that no decision should be made ... without a thorough discussion of ... Iranian retaliation for such an attack.'"

(Since when does the Bush administration worry about serious discussions? It's more bomb, bomb, bomb, and the hell with the consequences!)

But Cheney's "pot o' war ... [on] the back burner ... continued to simmer."

According to Jim Lobe of the Inter Press Service, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert went home after a recent visit to the White House and after meeting with both Bush and Cheney "quite satisfied ... that the administration plans to carry out a 'massive attack' in the window between the November elections and Bush's departure from office."

(An aside: If this should happen, and Bush and Cheney are not put in prison where they belong, all those people with children aged 17-20 or thereabouts should plan on sacrificing them to the Bush/Cheney war machine in the near future!)

To continue: "Cheney's aide-de-nepotism - daughter Elizabeth - despite leaving her job as deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs two years ago after the birth of her fifth child, has once again rallied to his cause. At the recent AIPAC conference, 'Deferment Baby,' attacked her former boss, Condoleezza Rice, and her policies, such as seeking a peace accord between Israel and the Palestinian Authority before Bush leaves office.

"Lobe quoted fille Cheney: 'When we focus on [Israeli-Palestinian peace talks], we don't have time to focus on Iran.' If Iran doesn't heed Security Council demands to halt enrichment, it 'will face military action,' she said."

Do you not wonder what a woman, no longer officially connected to the government, is doing making such bellicose statements, in fact, urging war on another country? Could it be she is doing Cheney's dirty work for him? Or as Lobe said, Elizabeth's closeness to the vice president might well indicate that "Cheney feels more confident [regarding war with Iran] than he has felt for some time."

And, "attacking Iran has long been his [Cheney's] heart's desire."

What to do? Whatever it is, it's going to have to be done by the Democrats for the Republicans no longer have a soul.

Cheney and Bush have acted before and were terribly wrong about what happened after the bombing. I do not know what will happen but Iran keeps telling us that Israel will be bombed, I assume Israel will do some bombing of its own if it is attacked by Iran. That will lead to attacks by Hezbollah from Lebanon and Hamas from Gaza. That could lead to all kinds of unanticipated consequences and a larger war. I think Israel is aware of what could happen if the US bombs Iran. I hope the US is also prepared!
At the moment we have some problems with our ability to fight two wars and wonder if we are prepared for another war in the area. I have no idea if Israel is prepared to fight a war on at least two fronts, or three if it has to do more than bomb Iran.
I suspect that we better be prepared to reinstitute the draft and to do it soon. We also had better be prepared to rearm our forces while we wait for the daft to rebuild our armed forces. I do not know if we have the manufactuirng capacity to do that quickly either. Hopefully China can sell us what we need. Irene and I have fourteen grandchildren of draft age! None are prepared or willing to go to war as of now. None considered a career in the military. We have some problems with waging war now. I wonder what is in store for us if we do decide to attack Iran. I do not see any of our leader’s kids enlisting and hope they are drafted if our grandchildren are. If the draft is needed, I hope there are no deferments or special assignments for anyone, not based on qualifications subject to media review, so we all know who gets what and why. I think all can serve doing something with only the really disabled exempt! If our country calls, it should call everyone. If we need to fight, it should mean everyone does its best to serve.
