Reversing Bush's damage

Unfortunately, it won't be possible to reverse all of the damage that George W. Bush and his cronies have inflicted upon our nation and the world.

But Ceci Connolly and R. Jeffrey Smith at the WaPo report that President-elect Barack Obama and his team are working to undo a few of Bush's regulations that were imposed for "'overtly political' reasons, in pursuit of what ... was a partisan Republican agenda."

That, it seems to me, would include everything Bush and his cronies did!

Here are a few things that Obama is looking at to undo or toss out or negate:

* The "controversial limit on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, a decision that scientists say has restrained research into some of the most promising avenues for defeating a wide array of diseases, such as Parkinson's. It is also important to note that this limit was imposed for religious reasons!

* The "global gag rule barring international family planning groups that receive U.S. aid from counseling women about the availability of abortion, even in countries where the procedure is legal. " Again, this rule was imposed for religious reasons!

* The decision by Bush last December to deny California the authority to regular carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles.

* The refusal by Bush to follow an EPA task force recommendation that carbon dioxide emissions be declared as harmful to human welfare. Bush's refusal was to "protect the utility and auto industries."

Much more will be coming for the Bushites did massive damage. And as Winnie Stachelberg, of the Center for American Progress, said, "It took eight years to get into this mess, and it will take a long time to get out of it."

But hey, we're on the way!
