The Repugs still don't get it!

Already, Repugnican pols are positioning themselves for a run at the presidency in 2012.

Names being floated in the cesspool of Repugnican politics include Bobby Jindal, the born-again Catholic exorcist creationist governor of Louisiana; the ignorant and ethically-challenged Sarah Palin, of whom we've had way too much in the past few months; and the serial adulterer, destroyer of all that was potentially good in the Republican Party, Newt Gingrich.

What this tells us is that the Republican Party is destitute and poverty-stricken when it comes to capable leadership.

It also tells us that the Republican Party, even after the resounding defeat by the "liberal" Senator Barack Obama, still doesn't get it!

The floated names are "cultural warriors," right-wing christianists, and political charlatans who have nothing to offer but the same old failed conservatism of the past, and who would lead us right back into the swampy mire that has characterized the Bush/Cheney administration!

The Repugs still don't get it!

As a former Republican for 48 years and a ten year Democrat now, I cannot sympathize with the attempts to trying to rebuild what didn’t work. The Republican and Democratic Parties, once upon a time, functioned as the Loyal Opposition. Each had a basic philosophy that had merit. They used to work together an find ways to compromise on many areas for the greater good. Both had liberal and conservative members. It was not a game. The members had a job to do and represented real people. I believe Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America ruined that! Tom De Lay took it to new depths and we experienced a one Party system ever since, with party over country. We saw opposition members frozen out of meetings. That left half the country unrepresented. The ultimate has been the Bush/Cheney system of ignoring laws and traditions and no one willing to back a real investigation that could possibly have led to impeachment. It allowed for no oversight and led to our present desperate straits. It is possible that some of the damage will not be repaired if Obama decides to use the same tactics to reverse some of the damage. We shall see. One party rule is always dangerous regardless of which party uses it or abuses it.
We do need change! Bush has a few months left and hopefully, will work closely to limit the damge that will carry over. Some changes can be made at once and others will have to await January. Time is wasting.
