McCain & Creation Museum lead in Kentucky

It isn't suprising, really, that McCain has a solid lead in Kentucky and should take the state with no problem come November 4.

You gotta remember, Kentucky, while a beautiful state in many ways, is the home of the so-called Creation Museum.

The people that constructed this monument to ignorance and superstition believe that their skygod created the entire world and everything that exists about 6,000 years ago - and John McCain was there!

No, he wasn't. That was a low blow.

But, there are some connections. The Creation Museum, although relatively new, is a relic of antiquated thought, to which no reputable scientist would give the least credence today.

McCain, too, is tied to ideas and programs which have been shown over and over again to be invalid and unproductive. He would, as he has promised on numerous occasions, continue the policies of the George W. Bush administration, policies which have resulted in disaster at home and abroad.

In Kentucky, the Creation Museum and McCain come together.

May they crawl together forever in the primeval mud.

A dubious connection, since McCain has publicly said (e.g., in a GOP primary debate) that he accepts evolution.

Dear Anon...

I don't think so. The point wasn't whether or not McCain "accepts" evolution, but that his ideas are antiquated in a fashion similar to the ideas promoted by the Creation Museum.

The Creation Museum is a scientific joke in the modern world, and McCain is a political joke.

Thanks for writing.

Four things:

1) "McCain, too, is tied to ideas and programs which have been shown over and over again to be invalid and unproductive." - what are these programs you mention? You should be specific when making such sweeping claims. It's great to have an opinion, but you can't begin to win over anyone to your viewpoint without evidence.

2) "May they crawl together forever in the primeval mud." - this doesn't make any sense, since if McCain and the Creation Museum believe God created the world, there would be no primeval mud to crawl in.

3) Your profile says you are a "Writer, poet, photographer, critic, historian, biblical scholar, theologian, bicyclist, inline skater... " - I'm curious how "biblical scholar" and "theologian" play with vehimently negative stance against the Bible's description of Creation (or anything else Biblical for that matter - "skygod").

The bible talks about you: "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:" 2 Peter 3:3-5

If you are seriously a "biblical scholar" and "theologian", you should read the debate between Creation and Evolution happening now here: http://blog.beliefnet.com/blogalogue/2008/10/#50219

4) Obama's views of "spreading the wealth around" is not the American way (nor Biblical). We are a country based on working hard to achieve success, not taking away from those who work hard to give to those who do not. If we are concerned about those people who are truely in need, then we need to empower Non-Profit Organizations to take in donations and distribute those funds. It is NOT the government's responsibility to figure out how rich is "too rich" or "too poor".

Speaking of the church, but it applies here: "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7 - Giving of your wealth from your heart is not the same as the governement taking it away from you.

As a country, maybe we don't need a change in Government, but rather a change of Heart.

Dear "Christian,"

1. I've written so much about McCain's ideas and programs...just take one - the trickle-down theory that would cut taxes for the rich in hopes some the largess would trickle down to the rest of us. It failed under Reagan - big time, and it's failed even worse under G.W.

2. That's really my point. Neither the Creation Museum nor McCain make any sense.

3. You appear to believe the bible from a Christian fundamentalist viewpoint - holding that it is "true" in all aspects, the "word" of god, etc.

I do not hold to that view. But also refuse to get involved in a dead-end argument with anyone who quotes the bible to prove the bible. Circular argument?

4. All taxation is a means of spreading the wealth! It's a way that we help each other for the common good. It's how we build a community. And that's different from the Republican way which would enrich the wealthy at the expense of the poor and the middle class. Or haven't you been reading the headlines lately?

And your thought that we should all give from our heart - you must be joking.

There's no "debate" going on between "Creation and Evolution." There isn't one reputable scientist in the world that holds to creationism! The entire scientific community is based upon the theory of evolution, and I hope you do understand the scientific meaning of the word, "theory."

Any so-called "debate" amounts to nothing more than wishful thinking on the part of those who hold a literalist view of the bible combined with the typical fundamentalist nonsense of "inerrancy."

Peace!

Jacob,

You are sadly mistaken if you believe that there are no reputable scientists in the world who hold to creationism. In fact, there many reputable scientists through out the world that believe that God created the heavens and the earth in six days. They believe as I do, that God loves the world, and that He gave his Son Jesus Christ to died for your sins and mine and everyone's, and by accepting this truth and repenting of our sins and believing that Jesus will save us from eternal punishment, that we are saved! But, about reputable scientist that believe in creationism: Some modern scientists who have accepted the biblical account of creation
Dr. William Arion, Biochemistry, Chemistry
Dr. Paul Ackerman, Psychologist
Dr. E. Theo Agard, Medical Physics
Dr. James Allan, Geneticist
Dr. Steve Austin, Geologist
Dr. S.E. Aw, Biochemist
Dr. Thomas Barnes, Physicist
Dr. Geoff Barnard, Immunologist
Dr. Don Batten, Plant physiologist, tropical fruit expert
Dr. John Baumgardner, Electrical Engineering, Space Physicist, Geophysicist, expert in supercomputer modeling of plate tectonics
Dr. Jerry Bergman, Psychologist...to name a few. You may go to www.answersingenesis.org to get even a greater list!

God loves you and wants to save you! You have a problem with that?

Oh Moses...

Let's see, you named about 11 "scientists." Out of how many million? And I'm supposed to find "answers" from a creationism site. I don't think so.

I'm glad that Jesus loves you and saved you. You probably need it.

And yeah, I've got a problem with ignoramuses that take an ancient book of mythology written by ignorant folks who knew nothing from nothing as "scientific."

You've got "faith," I'll grant you that. 'Cause it takes a lot of "faith" to believe the nonsense you're promoting, especially in light of all the evidence to the contrary.

But keep up the good work. Your reward will be in "heaven," right up there with your skygod.

Dear Jacob,

You say: "But also refuse to get involved in a dead-end argument with anyone who quotes the bible to prove the bible"

Interesting response...my quoting of the Bible was not an attmept to "prove" the Bible to you. I was simply refering to what the Bible says in reference to the last days, and what to expect from people who scoff. You don't have to like it. Would you be so irritated if I quoted Wordsworth instead?

If the Bible is not the word of God, then it's really nothing more than any other book. And if, by chance, you read it and found something you agreed with, that would be of no more value than if it was a saying by Ben Franklin or Wordsworth. This is essentially what you're saying.

Your mock people who believe the Bible as if they are placing their faith in the writings of Wordsworth. I'm guessing to be consistent, you also mock everyone who believes in a god as well.

For me, reading the Bible, and comparing it to the wisdom of other people or religions, I see something very different emerge. The Bible is very unique because I believe there is a consistency and authority not found in other teachings. To me, this creedance is very compelling, and is something which I feel is confirmed the more I read it.

You say: "All taxation is a means of spreading the wealth! It's a way that we help each other for the common good. It's how we build a community."

WHA?! The purpose of taxation IS NOT to spread wealth! Read your Constitution (Article 1, section 8). Please answer me: at what point is the wealth sufficiently spread? Is the person making $2 million need to taxed, say, so that we can spread $1.5 million around? Should that person only keep $500K? Keep less? The person with $2 million, in your eyes, is not entitled to that income, yet the person making $16K is? There are certainly people abusing the system on both sides, but the outliers should not be what we react to.

Governement programs funded by taxation is how we help each other? NO! Governement is notorious for waste and inefficiency. Non-profits, groups that have skin in the game, are much more efficient and agile. These groups should be the mechanism for helping people.

So, by your statement, as long as we are all equally funded, then we have a "community"? Your definition of community is warped in that description. Community is built through personal interaction, not because someone forces away means from me and gives it to someone else.

You say: "And your thought that we should all give from our heart - you must be joking."

That simply saddens me, that you would rather someone force you to give rather than to have the initiative to do it yourself, but "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks" (that's not Wordsworth).

I will pray for you, whether you care or not.

Interesting comments. There are many paths to Heaven, I was told. no one knows for sure which is the true path. There are literally thousands oof religions on earth. Which is the one God favors? Does anyone know? Does God need so many versions of what He wants? He has the power, I am told, to do as He wants and should know without our advice. The creator usually knows what He created, we must observe and guess. Some seem to know all. I wonder if that is a ruse the devil uses. Oh well, prayer doesn't hurt but ego and ignorance does.

Hi, Jacob--I would be curious to know if you have toured the Creation Museum. You seem to speak with authority on it.

Thanks.--Phil

Jacob,
About this comment "All taxation is a means of spreading the wealth! It's a way that we help each other for the common good. It's how we build a community."
I taught public high school for 7 years. I pleaded with students to put more effort into their work so that they could move on and get a college education. Those that didn't listen, they are now paying the consequences with lower income. Should we then step up to the plate and spread the wealth? What about letting people face their consequences?
By the way, I am not one of the wealthy. I will never be one of the wealthy because I have priorities in my life which require living on a one income budget. I certainly don't expect special tax favors because I am no longer receiving a teacher's income (though that would never qualify for a higher tax bracket!). You might note also, that wealthy people are already paying many times more taxes that the rest of us.
Suppose that every day ten men go to a restaurant for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If it was paid the way we pay our taxes, the first four men would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1; the sixth would pay $3; the seventh $7; the eighth $12; the ninth $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement until the owner threw them a curve. 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 3 + 7 + 12 + 18 + 59 = 100 cost of dinner "Since you're all such good customers, he said, I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." Now dinner for the 10 only costs $80. The first four are unaffected; they still eat for free. Can you figure out how to divvy up the $20 savings among the remaining six so that everyone gets his fair share? The men realize that $20 divided by 6 is $3.33, but if they subtract that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being paid to eat their meal. The restaurant owner proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay under the same assumptions: Now the fifth man also paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, and the ninth paid $12 leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of $59. Outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out the $20," complained the sixth man, pointing to the tenth, "and he got 7!" 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 2 + 5 + 9 + 12 + 52 = 80 reduced cost of dinner "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!" 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + (-1) + (-1) + (-2) + (-3) + (-6) + (-7)= (-20) savings on dinner "That's true," shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor." The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They were $52 short! And that, boys, girls, and college instructors, is how America's tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table any more.
