In Saudi Arabia, a country in which the Islamic religion is law, a 75-year old Syrian woman was sentenced to receive 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the land for mingling with two men.
Her name is Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi. Last year members of the religious police entered her house and discovered she was in the presence of two men to whom she was not related. The religious leaders in Saudi Arabia consider that bad, bad, bad - a no-no!
Both men were also arrested.
It is against the law in Saudi Arabia for men and women who are not kin to "mingle."
One of the men was given four months in prison and 40 lashes and the other got six months and 60 lashes.
The only difference between these Islamist fundys and the Christian Domionists in our country is the nature of the crime. The process and belief system is fundamentally the same.
