David Wilkerson's burdened soul. Ouch!

You may have never heard of David Wilkerson. That wouldn't be surprising in that he is a Pentecostal nut job who has been trying to save teenagers for Jesus for many years and wrote a book a long time ago called "The Cross and the Switchblade" which had to do with his "ministry" to hoodlums running loose on the streets of New York City, but hasn't been in the real news much for a couple of eons, thank goodness.

Maybe that's why he's parading around telling the world that the HOLY SPIRIT has talked directly to him and the future looks like shit! Well, he didn't say "shit," but that's what he means.

I learned about this amazing event at The Blog for Why Won't God Heal Amputees.com. It was picked up at Wilkerson's blog.

Wilkerson told his readers that he was "compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message" - a prediction, if you will.

Yes! And here it is, directly from the HOLY SPIRIT herself! "An earth-shattering calamity is about to happen. It is going to be so frightening, we are all going to tremble -- even the godliest among us."

Wow! The HOLY SPIRIT herself said that!

Wilkerson was told about "fires raging through New York City." (Quick, tell the Fire Department so they can prepare!)

He goes on, directly from the HOLY SPIRIT to you: "It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires -- such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago. There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting -- including Times Square, New York City. What we are experience now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God's wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written, 'If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?'"

What can they do, indeed? My goodness. This is just incredible. The HOLY SPIRIT herself came down from heaven and spoke to David Wilkerson and gave him all this information that he should spread the word around. Isn't that wonderful? We can get prepared! We can all run down to the nearest holy gospel church of God and go "Whoop, Whoop," and garble in tongues and maybe the Lord hisself will spare us from this terrible devastation!

But, wait, as The Blog for Why notes, all of this begs the question: When? WHEN is this devastation going to happen? When? Please tell us when! Doesn't the HOLY SPIRIT who talks to David Wilkerson and no one else want us to know WHEN the shit is gonna hit the fan so we can make preparations and save people from the fires and riots and stuff?

Nope. The HOLY SPIRIT didn't tell David when. What? Yup. No date. No time. You're just gonna have to live with uncertainty!

Or, in Wilkerson's words: "I do not know when these things will come to pass, but I know it is not far off. I have unburdened my soul to you. Do with the message as you choose."

Ah, isn't that nice. He's unburdened his measly, grimy little soul, and the rest of us gotta worry about all this shit that's coming our way!

What kind of God would do something like that? Oh, that's right. The "god" of the Bible! Read all about it! He did all kinds of nasty stuff to his unsuspecting creatures because they didn't play nice with him! He's a jealous god, you know! So you better respect him, or he'll smite you with his mighty, swift sword. Yes, he will! 'Specially if you make graven images, or don't "observe" the Sabbath, or fail to make your sacrificial offering on his altar!

You just won't know when it's coming!

More seriously, the really sad thing about all of this is that a whole bunch of easily deluded sheep who think because someone says the Holy Spirit spoke to him, will believe this crap and will have many sleepless nights worrying about what's going to happen and when.

For that, Wilkerson proves he is an irresponsible moron with serious mental health issues.

There may well be troubled times ahead, but it's more likely to involve economic problems and global warming problems and religious wars such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The people of NYC might want to make some plans related to avoiding high water as scientists are currently quite alarmed at the rapid changes in climate which it appears will lead to rapidly rising seas by 2013!

Forget the rantings of the religious fruitcakes. Pay close attention, however, to what the scientists have to say! The scientists are the ones who have their finger on the pulse of the future; not Wilkerson and his ilk, and you won't find any answers in the Bible.

There's more here from a likely Wilkerson supporter.

And a little video to give you a flavor of Wilkerson's kookiness.

It is very sad that you waste your life believing this nonsense. That is your choice, but it make so little sense. What does your blood-thirsty, vicious god get you?

And you really shouldn't call other people fools even if your magic book does!

Jacob, any intelligent reader of your posts recognizes you are not “sad” because of others belief in God. We understand you are truly “sad” because others refuse to agree with your point of view.

It is your right to think any way you want. It is your life, your future, and your decision. Although I am called to share my beliefs with you, I will do so with respect – understanding that I have never walked a moment in your shoes. I did not share the same experiences that formed you. I refuse to call your belief “nonsense” because I am sure they make sense to you. Why can you not offer the same respect toward Christians? If you are correct in your opinions, nothing matters, so why are you so militant about converting people to your way of thinking?

People who do not believe in God believe in nothing. They believe the entire universe exists from some cosmic accident; that material things can exist from nothing –-- where I believe there is order and a creator. Both sides take faith. My faith says that something as miraculous as a human brain or eye could not create itself from a vacuum, where your faith says it can.

We might always disagree; you might never believe in God; but until you do I will believe enough for both of us and continue praying that He will continue to knock on your door. You don’t think I am writing to you by accident, do you? I am just one small tap at your door … and I am willing to bet you have been ignoring a lot of that tapping, huh? That’s Ok. He will continue loving you – even while you are ignoring Him. I am proof of that.

My kindest regards,

Dave Hood

Hey Dave...it doesn't matter to me what you believe...and you can dream up any scenario you want to think that I'm ignoring some tap tap at my door.

That's pretty funny, really.

If you want to believe in a skygod who has to have a blood sacrifice to satisfy his blood-thirst, that's fine with me. But, please, don't expect me or any other rational person to pretend that your belief is sane.

And when you talk about "both sides" taking faith, you show the world you don't know what you're talking about.

You may be a very nice person, but your condescending religious crap cuts no ice with me, and you can take your prayers and point them to someone who needs them...

Did you ever wonder why you've got to pray, pray, pray, and plead, plead, plead to your god to get anything done...and then nothing happens anyway.

Sheesh!

Thanks for writing, David, but your religion is nonsense!

Hello Jacob. Thanks for responding to my response. I appreciate your point of view and wish you the best. There is no condensation in my tone, except what you might read into it. I think that I am absolutely no better than you - not one bit better. My first response was to validate my understanding that your beliefs are as real to you as mine are to me.

To me, there is nothing more reprehensible than false Christians who crucify others while ignoring their own faults. You know the type - those self-righteous hypocrites who can never forgive - who never seem short of answers for other people's lives yet are messes themselves. Some of the world’s worst atrocities have taken place under the banner of the church; but those atrocities are made by humans running a human church and have nothing to do with God. Men need to fill voids in understanding – and they corrupt innocence, no matter where they find it. As long a religions are run by men they will be imperfect – often evil and excluding. Wouldn’t it be better if Christians learned to accept other flawed people (just like themselves); love them; get to know them; and discover who they truly are and why they believe what they believe? I think so.

Faith is simply a belief in things unknown. Your faith, in fact, is a faith in everything existing from nothing. The secular Big-Bang theory is a prime example. When asked where the dense-matter came from that caused the Big bang, a major proponent of that theory stated it came from an even earlier Big Bang. Now, that’s faith; but it is still everything from nothing.

I am the first to admit that I have no answers; that being human my understanding is very, very limited. Having that intelligent open-mind would never allow me to think your ideas are foolish or nonsense. Only someone fooling himself thinks he knows the unknowable.

Dave
