The wingnuts meet in Denver, support McCain

They came from all over...90 of them...so-called "evangelical" leaders. Now, I've known many "evangelicals" in my lifetime, and these people should not, by any stretch of the imagination, be called evangelicals. They are extremists, and Christian fundamentalists, as evidenced by their willingness to go to almost any extreme to obtain and maintain power. For them, the ends justify the means.

These extremist fundamentalists claim to believe "all" of the Bible as God's inspired word, as infallible, as their guide for living. Actually, that's not even close to true. They pick and choose as do all Christians as to which particular parts of the Bible they want to believe and discard the rest. They use biblical proof-texts to justify their doctrines.

And they are invariably more pagan than Christian for they leave Jesus and his teachings out of their religious equations.

See if you can find Jesus in any of what follows.

Ninety of these wingnuts gathered in Denver the last week of June to agree with the old self-righteous bigot herself, Phyllis Schlafly, that "The alternative is so bad we must support John McCain." Schlafly, founder of the Eagle Forum, has been a fly in the ointment of common sense for years; a vapid homophobic fundamentalist.

Note that the great majority of those attending this wingnut conference were "white and middle-aged."

The were called together by none other than the rabid extremist, Matthew Staver, who heads up Liberty Counsel and is the dean of Liberty University's law school. Liberty University is one of those institutions where education means indoctrination. It is Jerry Falwell's baby.

Staver rallied the group claiming that only John McCain represents their "shared conservative values" and their "concern about judicial activism." (One has to wonder how a man who left his wife to marry his blonde bimbo mistress represents "conservative values." Judicial activism, is, or course, in the eye of the beholder. It's perfectly fine when the Supreme Court acts to put your man in the White House, but when a judge rules in favor of gays or lesbians, he/she is a "judicial activist.")

An Obama presidency, the wingnuts fear, would "mean passage of highly liberal policies that would probably allow 'same-sex marriage,' severely hurt religious freedom and ensure the appointment of only judges who would keep abortion on demand as the law of the land."

Rick Scarborough, another extremist wingnut, and founder of the right-wing Vision America is certain that an Obama presidency would mean the passing of laws "that would essentially criminalize basic Christian beliefs."

Kinda reminds you of G. W. Bush, "The terrorists are coming! The terrorists are coming!"

Another goofball pastor said that if a law is passed in California forcing clergy to marry same-sex couples, they may go to jail if they refuse. Please notice that pastors have never been "forced" to marry anyone! That is not going to change. And what normal same-sex couple would even think of asking one of these fruitcakes to perform a marriage ceremony?

Sheesh!

The porn-addicted Phil Burress was there, too, and explained how he was formerly very anti-McCain, but after talking with McCain about the issues, he changed his mind. He sent out an email to his followers that described his conversion, telling them also that "... if Obama wins I need to be able to get up on November 5th, look at myself in the mirror, and when I pray, say, 'Lord, I did all that I could.'"

I'll bet the Lord laughed so hard at that he fell off his heavenly golden throne!

As a group, the wingnuts want McCain to collar Mike Huckabee for the vice presidential slot.

One Oklahoma attorney said that statistics show McCain will win in November. Hmmm. A bit out of touch, there. Must be wishful thinking, as all the statistics to date show Obama with a lead, both in the popular vote and in the Electoral College.

One can only hope that Obama wins big time and these cockroaches crawl back into their respective holes. And while I have no evidence that any of them claimed race entered into their anti-Obama presidential deliberations, I would be willing to bet that racism was blistering throughout their private conversations.

I could be wrong, of course. But these are not nice people.

Did you find anything about their "Lord and savior" in anything they said? As I recall, their mythical Jewish savior didn't talk about homosexuality or abortion or "conservative values," or free trade (that was an issue, too, for the group), but he did speak of turning the other cheek, tossing stones only if one was without sin, rendering unto Caesar what was Caesar's, feeding the poor, visiting the sick, and comforting those in prison. I think he also noted that one should not pray in the public square--he was really down on hypocrites; he warned that those who walk by a beggar without helping him will end up in Sheol; and it appears he didn't have much use for preemptive or other kinds of wars, saying that those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

Nah. They're all a bunch of phony Christians, and as one of them said, it's all about ensuring that when McCain's elected, they have access to the White House!
