When a Judge Plays God

It isn't a matter of whether you agree with the jury or whether you think Dr. Sami Amin Al-Arian is guilty or innocent. It's a matter of simple justice according to the Constitution of the United States.

Dr. Al-Arian has been jailed for five years even though not one charge against him has held up in court. Following a six-month trial that ended about a year ago, Al-Arian was acquitted of eight of the charges against him and the jury failed to agree on the rest.

Again, my opinion or the opinion of anyone else as to Dr. Al-Arian's guilt or innocence is irrelevant. The fact is that the U.S. Government failed to make their case against him.

It was a god-playing judge who decided he should stay in jail!

The tragedy for our justice system is that Al-Arian has spent five years in prison without being convicted of any crime!

A further tragedy is that if it can happen to him it can happen to anyone.
