Bush, McCain and Rice - mealy-mouthed and absent

Georgia invaded South Ossetia. Russia invaded Georgia. People died. Over oil.

Georgi W. Buski was goofing around with scantily-clad volleyball girls in China. When he did address the events in Georgia, he talked really tough. Like he meant it. Russia better back off, he said. We're really mad, he said. We're going to punish Russia, he said. Who does Russia think it is, he asked. Only I, Georgi, chosen by god, can invade sovereign countries, he implied, hypocritically.

Surely MacCaine talked tough, too. He has experience dealing with countries like the nasty Ruskies, he said. Unlike Obama, the neophyte, he said. I'll hurt Russia, he said. Russia should stop acting like it was the United States, he implied.

Condi Rice, the U.S. Secretary of State, the one person expected to be involved when one country invades what it considers to be a breakaway province and another country invades the first country to protect the oil pipelines in the breakaway province. But Condi Rice was not to be seen. She was on vacation, they said. She was on personal leave, they said. She could not be bothered with such trifles, they said.

It took the president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, to broker a cease-fire and set the scenario for a peaceful resoluton. With luck it will all work out.

So, once more the present and would-be leaders of the United States show themselves to be hypocritical morons without a clue as to what "leadership" is about in a 21st century world where a nuclear nightmare is just a button's push away.

People everywhere are rolling their eyes and tearing their hair, their vision of American greatness disintegrating to dust.

Every time I hear Bush and McCain bark at Russia I can't help but wonder; "yeah, you and what army?"

Where were our leaders as events started to unfold? The area Russia is trying to take over has a huge number of our soldiers and our oil companies executives trying to finish a pipeline that Russia feels will allow us to avoid their pipe lines and buying their oil. We can threaten Russia with our anger but the Russians know we do not have the armed forces to fight them! This is the one area of the world that Condi Rice has expertise in. Where was she as this situation was building up? The pipeline deal is not new and we knew Russia wanted to make sure it was never built. It has to do, also with our missile defense locations, which is also not a new problem with Russia. Did Bush really think Putin was going to sit by and allow us to do something he thinks is not in Russia’s best interests? This has been building up and was not a surprise! We know it has to do with oil again. The talk of invading a nation is nonsense when we are sitting in Iraq. Oil is the answer and at the moment Russia is holding all the cards. We can bluster all we want but we are not in a position to do much about it.
We have had eight years of inexperience in foreign affairs based on looking in someone’s eyes and seeing their soul. It is time for a change and we have only two viable candidates to choose from. Too bad! Once again, we will get what we deserve, regardless of which one gets elected.

We have had seven years to raise an army capable of handling all that is on our plate. What the hell have we been doing all this time?
