McCain, lobbyists, Taiwan and weapons

John McCain has no ethical core.

Last week the Bushites announced a new weapons package for Taiwan. 'Tis a risky business, that, sure to invoke the wrath of the Chinese government.

McCain, the ultimate warrior, was not happy, though. Not because he thought the Bush administration should not sell weapons to Taiwan, but because the Bush administration didn't sell enough weapons! McCain wanted to add submarines and F-16's to the mix.

McCain, in his usual blustery form, said he believes that Taiwan is better off if it can deal with China from a position of strength. Unfortunately, Obama seems to agree on that particular. Unfortunately, it is never smart to tease a tiger, and China is one hell of a tiger.

But here's the problem (which McCain evidently doesn't see as a problem): McCain's foreign policy coordinator is Randy Scheunemann. Randy Scheunemann is a big-time lobbyist for foreign governments.

Don't you just love it? McCain stands in front of a world audience while debating Obama and castigates the dastardly lobbyists at the same time his campaign includes 84 of the dastards, some of which are the biggest corporate lobbyists in the world!

Anyway, Scheunemann (according to WaPo), "as recently as May ... had a $200,000 contract with Taiwan to provide 'advocacy ... with the U.S. Congress and executive branch,' which it renewed in June..."

"...The McCain campaign did not respond to a request for comment on whether Randy Scheunemann ... had a role in drafting the statement [McCain's desire for subs and F-16's] or if he had recused himself."

This is the same Scheunemann who was advising McCain on foreign policy even while a lobbyist for Georgia. While the McCain campaign paid Scheunemann $70,000 between January 1, 2007 and May 15, 2008, his firm collected $290,000 in lobbying fees from the government of Georgia.

John McCain has no ethical core and he knows not the truth!
