Roman Catholic Bishop Tobin takes low road

Well, actually, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, thought he was taking the high road and standing up for his god and morality by defending the RC church's stance on health care reform.

As we would expect, however, the RC church takes the low road.

It's all about abortion; defending the "unborn"; blah, blah, blah.

According to Boston.com, Patrick Kennedy, son of the late Ted Kennedy, and U.S. Representative to Congress from Rhode Island, strongly supports health care reform "even if it includes public funding for abortion services."

Mr. Kennedy, as a representative of ALL the people of Rhode Island, and not just those who affiliate with the Roman Catholic church, is absolutely right in his stance. Even if he agreed with the hidebound bishop, his stance would still be the correct one.

Kennedy, though, violated one of the main tenets of the RC hierarchy: Thou shalt not speak ill of a bishop or any Catholic demagogue or any stupid Roman Catholic policy.

Kennedy supports a public option. He told the Catholic New Service, "I can't understand for the life of me how the Catholic Church could be against the biggest social justice issue of our time, where the very dignity of the human person is being respected by the fact that we're caring and giving health care to the human person - that right now we have 50 million people who are uninsured."

He went on: "You mean to tell me the Catholic Church is going to be denying those people life-saving health care? I thought they were prolife? If the church is prolife, then they ought to be for health care reform, because it's going to provide health care that are [sic] going to keep people alive."

Now, the right wrong reverend Bishop Tobin didn't like that at all. The nerve of this whippersnapper representative! How dare he question the bishop's wisdom and the church's dogma?

Tobin, you see, like the rest of the hierarchs in the RC church, is much more concerned with the power, authority and control he wields, along with maintaining church doctrine at all costs, no matter how many people said doctrine hurts, than he is about health care reform.

The bishop claims he wants health care reform but only if it plainly excludes any money for abortion services.

And of Kennedy, he said, piously: "Congressman Kennedy continues to be a disappointment to the Catholic Church and to the citizens of the state of Rhode Island. I believe the congressman owes us an apology for his irresponsible comments. It is my fervent hope and prayer that he will find a way to provide morally responsible leadership for our state."

Fascinating, isn't it, that the bishop assumes he represents the people of Rhode Island and not Congressman Kennedy. Even more fascinating is he thinks he should be able to force the RC position on the Congressman! But it's the bishop, not Kennedy, who should be apologizing!

All of this from a man in skirts who represents one of the most corrupt and venal institutions in the history of the human race; an institution that has aided and abetted the destruction of thousands of young lives through its blind eye tactics to the pedophile creeps serving at its altars for damn near 2,000 years.

This from a skirted celibate who knows from nothing what would drive a woman to seek abortion services, but pompously declares her and anyone who assists her in her dilemma to be damned forever to eternal punishment.

This from a bishoprick who stands with others in the hierarchy fighting to ban contraceptives which can and do save hundreds and thousands, if not millions of lives around the world from the scourge of HIV and Aids. All because the church has some godforsaken belief in the sanctity of sperm!

This from a cleric in fancy robes who thinks gay marriage will sink his poor state even though 25-50 percent of the priests in his church body are gay themselves!

Once again, when push comes to shove, the Roman church walks the low road and does its best to beat up on those who score higher than it does on the scales of ethical behavior, morality, and justice.

Don't you know that these hypocrites are only pro-life until 38 weeks? LOL Because once that fetus is born, they don't give a flying fuck if it lives, dies, has anything to eat, or a roof over it's head, etc. If they did, the Vatican wouldn't be one of the richest organizations on the planet, but would instead use all that wealth to feed and clothe people.

The Catholic church is responsible for the murders of millions, and I take what they say with a grain of salt. This is a secular democracy, and they can go fuck themselves if they don't like it. And I'm sure they'll fuck themselves (or altar boys as it were) anyways.

I think the Catholic Church is a matter for Catholics to worry about. If they wish to follow the dictates of their church they should do so but not if it interferes with non Catholics. What if any of the thousands of denominations and wide variety of religions in the USA were each to change our laws to follow their beliefs? Would we have to handle snakes, if that denomination were to suddenly demand laws be changed? Would we have to give up pork if both Jews and Muslims were to unite to change the laws? Would we all have to decide if total immersion or partial immersion was to become the law of the land if Baptists were to unite and use their considerable numbers to change our laws?

Let us insist that separation of church and state has worked and allowed us to survive as a free nation.

What if we were to change the tax laws and tax all religious property that uses public services, like police and fire, etc? What if the members of each church were to pay for the support of its leaders, buildings, schools, etc rather than be tax free? We would each still be free to practice whatever we wish, but would have to support that belief with our money if we believe strongly enough.

What if ??????
