Eric Cantor - It's the media's fault people think the Repugs stink

Eric Cantor - always good for a laugh. With Repugnican leaders like this, the Dems should stay in power for years!

Cantor at concert and lies about it

This is kinda silly, but maybe not. Think Progress had a minor piece on the fact that Eric Cantor, House Minority Whip went to a Britney Spears concert the other night at the Verizon Center.

The trouble with Cantor is that he doesn't think very clearly. He doesn't realize that often what goes around, comes around.

You'll recall he has been busily criticizing our president for wasting time on frivolous activities (like signing a bill removing the ban on funding for embryonic stem cell research). We are in a terrible crisis, said Mr. Cantor fiercely with a Repugnican scowl. How dare the president fool with such unnecessary things like stem cell research? He should be fixing the economy, said Cantor.

Heh. Heh.

It doth make one wonder then, doesn't it, how Mr. Cantor can take time off from dealing with the immense and immediate needs of our country to go to a Britney Spears concert? I mean, you can't even claim that is a cultural event!

Not only so, but Mr. Cantor went to the concert on the same night that the president gave a prime-time press conference!

Amanda Terkel, who wrote the article for Think Progress, relates that Cantor's office put out this statement:

"After attending the NRCC dinner, Eric, like President Obama has been known to do, enjoyed a night at the Verizon Center. It was a bipartisan night, as Eric was joined by Senator Landrieu and other Democrats."

'Tis interesting that the statement mentions no other Democrats by name. Maybe Cantor doesn't know or doesn't remember the names of any other Democrats.

Not only so, but the statement was a lie! Yup. Another member of the Family Values caucus creates a falsehood to make himself look better than usual.

"Think Progress spoke with a staffer in Landrieu's office, who said that the senator was indeed not at the concert."

Obama can do two things at once, even if Eric Cantor can't

A couple of days ago, we posted an article about the House Minority Whip, Repugnican Eric Cantor, who complained bitterly that Obama should not be messing with things like stem-cell research, but focusing on the economy. The economy was the big issue, the No. 1 issue, opined the whiny Mr. Cantor.

That's why Steve Benen's article on what Mr. Cantor has been up to is so hilarious! While Mr. Cantor speaketh thusly: "Let's take care of business first," he's been up to his nogoodnik tricks. Which is typical, of course, of Repugnican politicos, who say one thing and do another.

For example. In the last few months, Mr. Cantor jumped ship with regard to taking care of business. He co-sponsored the following legislation:

1. H. Res. 204, which congratulated "the American Dental Association for its 150th year of working to improve the public's oral health and promoting dentistry.

2. H. Res. 18: This was a bill to honor "the life, achievements and contributions of Paul Newman.

3. H.R. 997: In this case, Cantor wanted to make "English the official language of the United States."

4. H.R. 836: Mr. Cantor must love his beer. This particular piece of legislative goofiness would "amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to reduce the tax on beer to its pre-1991 level, and for other purposes."

Heh. Heh. Nothing like "focusing on the economy," right Eric?

Steve Benen's article is here.

Embryonic stem cell funding reversal

Oh boy, the Xtian right wingnuts are really, really mad! Yessiree! That socialist, godless, nogood Commie Obama is going to reverse the ban on government funding of embryonic stem cell research!

Now, you just know that God is tearing off his wings up there in heaven at this brazen attempt to play himself! Jesus and the Holy Spirit are so angry they're thinking about making Satan the patron of the Democratic Party instead of the Republican Party!

And it's not only the Xtian right wingnuts that got their shorts in knots. It's the crippled rabble who make up the Repugnican congressional leadership, too!

Omigod, whined Repug whip of the House, Rep. Eric Cantor: "Why are we going and distracting ourselves from the economy?" he cried. "This is job No. 1. Let's focus on what needs to be done."

Heh. Heh. And all the people laughed their asses off! Repugnicans "focusing" on what needs to be done? That's why every single one of the damn nogoodniks voted against Obama's plan to help the economy. They "focused" all right; they "focused" the whole damn country!

What Cantor is really focused on is "embryo harvesting" and "human cloning." He's worried about big, bad Uncle Sam: "Frankly, federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research can bring on embryo harvesting, perhaps even human cloning that occurs. We don't want that. That shouldn't be done. That's wrong."

Hmmm. Sure wouldn't want to clone any Repugnicans! He's right about that!

But Cantor and the rest of the dim bulb Repugs in Congress stand alone with the religious goofballs on the right.

Meanwhile, Dr. Harold Varmus, who co-chairs Obama's science advisory council and is president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, speaking for common sense and reasonable people everywhere, said that the Obama administration is endorsing "the notion that public policy must be guided by sound, scientific advice."

But why? whines Cantor. We've got God, the Vatican, Limbaargh and the GOP to tell us what is right, wrong and inbetween!

Yeah for Obama!

Newt Gingrich & Tom DeLay - Repub Powerballs

The Republican Party lost the November election for various reasons, not the least of which is the fact they are out of touch with the concerns and the needs of the American people. One might think that would be cause for self-examination, confession, and repentance.

Not so.

The Republican Party, living in the past and dreaming of golden years which never were, have become the party of retrenchment.

Deluded fools they be, thinking if only they can capture what they had under leaders like Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay, all will be well. That is understandable once we realize that the Republican Party doesn't care about the welfare of the country. It really doesn't.

The Republican Party, like so many organizations, exists to perpetuate itself and its power - now lost.

How might a political party recapture power and regain its majority in the three branches of government? The sane and sensible response would have to do with determining how best to meet the needs and desires of the people the party seeks to serve and then construct a platform to meet those needs and desires.

But the Republican Retrenchment Party is insane. Their goal is power, pure and simple. Thus, the Minority Whip in the House, the nogoodnik, Eric Cantor, releases a filthy, profane diatribe against the working class. Thus Cantor and other Repug nogoodniks (with which the House of Representatives is filled) seeks the advice of Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay.

Whatever else one may say about Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay, one must say they are two of the biggest scumbags ever to reach high levels of government in the United States. Both are ethically-challenged and both are only about power - obtaining it and holding it, and often abusing it.

Gingrich, however, remains a hero to people like Cantor and other Republican leaders in the House and Senate. Which tells you a lot, none of which you really want to know, because it isn't good for our country.

Gingrich is the asshat who reconstructed the House of Representatives into a massive machine of opposition in the early 90s which had as its only goal the obstruction of President Clinton's programs to better the welfare of the American people.

His only purpose for doing that was to try to bring the Democrats down so the Republicans could take control of Congress! It had nothing to do with serving the people.

This is the man to whom our Republicans are now going to for advice. According to Think Progress, "Cantor said he had studied Mr. Gingrich's years in power and had been in regular touch with him as he sought to help his party find the right tone and message."

"I talk to Newt on a regular basis," said Cantor, "because he was in the position that we are in: in the extreme minority." Well, he got the word, "extreme" right. Right?

Think Progress also notes that "In September, he [Gingrich] 'was whipping against' the first TARP package 'up until the last minute' and was said to have been largely responsible for the GOP voting against it."

Just as an aside, to show what kind of man Gingrich really is: While leading the fight to impeach President Clinton, Gingrich was conducting an illicit affair with a woman who would eventually become his third wife.

Don't you just love Republican "family values"?

But don't forget when Gingrich shut down the government in a fit of pique because Clinton made him sit in the back of the plane!

Eric Cantor's profane anti-union video

When the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, in conjunction with Americans United for Change, began running ads blasting the House Minority Whip, Eric Cantor (R-VA) for leading Republican opposition to the stimulus package, Cantor responded by dredging up a profane video which portrays "AFSCME workers as curse-spewing bullies."

Brad Woodhouse, President of Americans United for Change, had a few pertinent things to say:

"Does Eric Cantor believe that peddling profanity-laced filth around the Internet is consistent with the values of the people of Virgina or the country? This is childish, inappropriate and disgusting behavior from someone who is supposed to be a leader in Congress and a role model to others. ... This video has been floating around on YouTube for years - but Eric Cantor's use of it in this context shows how completely and utterly out of touch he is with the current economic crisis and the lives of his constituents. Eric Cantor should be ashamed and he should apologize."

Yup. But this really isn't surprising behavior for a Repugnican.

[Beware, this video contains much profanity and vulgar language.]

Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel

Already the carping has begun. Some folks are unhappy with the choice of Rahm Emanuel as President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff.

He's too conservative, they say. He's too intense, they say. He's too ferocious, they say.

He's too partisan, they say.

What we need now is someone willing to "reach across the aisle," they say.

Bullshit, I say!

Already, the Repugs are lining up their ducks to fight the Democrats at every turn! The Repugs know nothing except partisanship! Partisan is the name of the ship they've sailed for the past eight years - actually, for the last almost 30 years! And New Gingrich made that ship an ironclad in 1994!

Now, Roy Blunt, the current House Minority Whip is stepping down (shoved out?) and his place is being taken by Deputy Minority Whip, Eric Cantor, of Virginia.

Why? Because Eric Cantor will fight the Dems more effectively! He is an extremist by almost every measure, and is partisan to the extreme. When his name surfaced as a possible running mate for John McCain, Republican moderates went screaming into the night.

Some time ago, we blogged on Mr. Cantor. Click here for a rundown on what he's voted for and what he's voted against. He's farther right than Attila the Hun, to use an old cliche!

So I say, Welcome to the Party, Mr. Emanuel! You've got experience, you know what the hell is going on, and you're not afraid to take on the dipshits on the Republican side of the aisle. You'll protect your president from the goofballs on the right and all the other just plain goofballs.

You're in for the fight of your life because the Repugs aren't going to take their bitter defeat sitting down or standing up or in any other position. They're gonna fight every Democratic initiative and they're going to attack President Obama at every turn. They're also gonna use their normal M.O. and fight dirty.

It's nice to have someone who knows how to fight back and isn't afraid to deal with the scumbags on their own ground! They say you're hard-headed. Great! Put on the gloves!
