Magdi Allam, the deputy editor of the Corriere della Sera newspaper, is a non-practicing Muslim. He was baptized by Pope Benedict XIV at an Easter vigil.
You could say that he's leaving behind superstitions he doesn't practice for new superstitions. Will he be a practicing Catholic?
Mr. Allam, is well-known as a writer on Islamic and Arab matters. He rejects extremism and urges tolerance.
Let's hope his writings have done some good because converting to Catholicism could bring him some extremist violence! Muslims cannot convert to another religion. And I think it fair to say that in many parts of the Muslim world, folks believe Islamic law says that converting to another religion is apostasy and is punishable by death.
Isn't religion fun? Happy belated Easter!

Let us hope his prayers keep him from getting killed. Muslims take conversion to other faiths pretty seriously
