Fewer people are playing golf these days.
According to an article from the New York Times, "The total number of people who play has declined or remained flat each year since 2000, dropping to about 26 million from 30 million ... "
The number of people who play golf frequently has also declined. Why is this?
Some think it's a time problem. Golf takes too long and people don't want to be away from their families for 4-5 hours on a weekend.
Whatever, the lack of demand has led to a surfeit of courses in certain parts of the country, and hundreds have closed in the past few years, mostly in Arizona, Florida, Michigan and South Carolina.
I went from a 4-5 times a week player, to zero times a week. Why?
Two reasons: the game's just too damn hard and it costs too much.
But, I'll be back!
