Hilda Solis, the working class, and Republicans

We finally have a Secretary of Labor who cares about working people, people who actually labor for a living!

Hilda Solis was finally confirmed as Secretary of Labor - and by a good margin - 80 - 17.

Elaine Chao, as you recall, the wife of GOP Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, is gone, thank god! Chao, a Bush crony, with no qualifications, didn't much care for working people -- their problems or their needs.

McConnell had threatened to filibuster Solis' nomination, but evidently thought better of it and allowed the nomination to go to a vote.

As Joe Sudbay says at Americablog, "This is a huge victory for progressives and, especially for working men and women. They'll have a Secretary who is on their side."

For your information, and for purposes of deleting these nogoodniks from Congress, the GOP naysayers are:

Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Kyl (R-AZ)
Risch (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)
Wicker (R-MS)

These are the Regugnicans who voted against working men and women! Let's do everything possible to see they are sent packing the next go-around!

I did not know that McConnell was married. I had been told that he was gay. Oh well, who knows who to believe anymore. His wife seems to have benefited by his position. I assume that is why she doesn’t use her married name. Is that honest or ethical?

The contemporary wisdom is that he's gay...but I wouldn't say that.
