Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong on Hell

Bishop Spong hits several nails on the head here. There is no hell; hell is an invention of the church. The church hates like hell to give up hell because hell is a means of controlling the hoi polloi and the church is in the business of controlling people!

Well spoken Bishop Spong. Too bad he's part of an organization that rejects everything he stands for.
It's good to have you back Jacob!!!

Hello my name is Richard, and i want to now if John Shelby Spong believe in the second coming of Jesus.Thank you

Hi Richard - In response to your your almost literate question, "I sure as hell hope not!"

You see, Richard, Jesus is a figment of the imagination of a few people living in the first century CE (Common Era). Hell is a figment of the imagination of later "Christians."

So Jesus can't come back. There is no hell. You're on your own, buddy. Just be good for goodness' sake!

That's a tough concept though, right?
