A Christian Right progrom of hate

(Photo of Tammy Baldwin, D-WI)

One thing as certain as death and taxes is that the Christian Right will hate gay people based upon their erroneous assumption that being gay is a choice as well as their literalistic reading of the Jewish sacred text, choosing to adopt what they believe to be an anti-homosexual stance, while at the same time ignoring all the other laws mandated in the Torah.

If you decide the homosexuality is a choice, even though the mass of scientific evidence indicates otherwise, and if you choose one text over another in a holy book to justify your belief, you have confirmed that your bias against homosexuals is also a choice - you choose to hate!

A Gay Equality Caucus has been formed in the U.S. House of Representatives. Fifty-two members of the house have joined the caucus, 50 of which are Democrats, 2 being Republicans. The caucus was announced at a press conference in the Capitol on June 3 by Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Barney Frank (D-Ma), the "only two openly gay members" of the House.

By way of explanation, Baldwin said the caucus members "represent different races, different genders, different sexual orientations, different geographic regions, different generations, and different parties, but we share a common mission: to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality."

Barney Frank also stressed fighting for legal equality for lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people. The caucus is intended to "serve as a resource for Members of Congress, their staffs, and the public on LGBT issues. Congressional action this session on legislation combating hate crimes and employment discrimination based highlighted the need, and the desire people had, for more information on LGBT issues."

Note the stress on "equality" for LGBT's.

They're going to need all the help they can get. A June 13 headline on onenewsnow, the so-called "Christian" news site, which is part of the American Family News Network, read,

"Homosexuality takes Congress by storm."

The only purpose of such a headline is to stir up hatred for homosexuals. It isn't even true. It isn't even close to true.

According to onenewsnow, this caucus has the official purpose of "promoting the homosexual agenda in Congress." What is that agenda? Well, "Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, says it is a sad day when Congress enshrines official promotion of sexual immorality."

So, the caucus' real agenda is the "official promotion of sexual immorality."

And, the Democrats are mostly to blame, of course. LaBarbera said, "I think what this shows is that the hard-core Democratic Left is extremely pro-homosexual. Big city populations have many homosexual activists, and they're disproportionately powerful compared to the rest of the people in the district. Do I think that the average person in the district knows that these members are promoting homosexuality in this way? No way! But there are probably powerful homosexual constituencies in each one of these districts."

Christians could learn from these dastardly homos, say LaBarbera. The homosexuals have, "With very small numbers ... managed to create the perception of a much larger constituency and, thereby, have many of their political demands met."

There you have it. Immoral homosexuals have taken over Congress to promote sexual immorality! And it's mostly those awful "hard-core" Democratic leftists. And isn't it amazing how a small group of homosexuals can become so powerful?

The truth, if LaBarbera ever wanted to consider it, is not that homosexual activists have been promoting immorality, but rather those Christian pretenders in Congress who are closeted
homosexuals have engaged in "immoral" or at least illegal activity and that has given homosexuality a bad name! And yet, they can't hold a candle to the large number of Christian "straight" members of Congress who have lived lives of immorality even while preaching against the very things they were engaged in. Remember Newt Gingrich voting to impeach President Clinton at the very time he was engaged in an affair with a woman not his wife?

Unfortunately, the Christian Right is not concerned with truth but with their ongoing progrom of hatred against those they deem to be morally objectionable.

But that is the exact thing that defines them as hypocrites. Jesus said nothing about homosexuals or homosexuality. He did indicate that sexual indiscretion (and I'm not saying homosexuality is an "indiscretion!) was not as important as lying, hypocrisy, pride, envy, etc. He also said something about loving one's enemies. Making a living out of the attempt to deny human beings, based on their sexual orientation, the rights enjoyed by the majority of our society, is a direct contradiction of the teachings of the one these so-called Christians claim to follow!

Quoting Jesus and the Hebrew Bible is great. Why don't more people follow all the rules? Leviticus alone has many. Most are now ignored but when did God repeal them? I am not a Biblical scholar but I do recognize taking select pasages wile ignoring others as wrong and dishonest.
Shame on those that do it knowingly.
