Banking scum

This comes from my friend, Jim Hightower.

Evidently, a lot of people have given up using credit cards because it is just too easy to ring up a huge debt in a very short period of time.

So, they've gone to debit cards, which means that when they purchase something, the funds are immediately withdrawn from their bank account.

Makes a lot of sense.

There's a joker in the deck, though. You can't buy something if you have no money in your account. The bank sends back a reject notice, and you're out of luck.

Aha! The bank scum have figured out a new deal to screw over their customers. Hightower puts it this way: "...banks have created 'overdraft protection' programs that let debit-card customers charge more money to the card than they have in their accounts. They can do this without telling you." [Emphasis mine!]

What that means for us poor, stupid consumers, is that the bank nails us with a $35 overdraft charge. And, god forbid, you should not pay that overdraft fee on time, you get nailed for another $35 - a late fee!

Hightower notes that last year banks made about $32 billion on bounced check fees. But not so much this year as people are being more cautious so as not to bounce checks. So the banks have bumped up their charges for bounced checks to $39.

But there's more.

"Meanwhile," says Jim, "Bank of America has doubled its basic checking-account fee, and Citibank charges up to 29.99% interest on credit cards."

Just remember all this when you see that advertisement with the smiling banker who wants to be your friend and have you put your money into his/her bank and lend you whatever amount you need to start a new business or buy a house.

Hah! Try to get a loan these days!

Banking scum! Feeding off of Repugnican unfettered "capitalism."

Mike Huckabee has no credibility!

Let's see how this goes: Mike Huckabee, erstwhile christianist, Southern Baptist preacher, Repugnican, FAUX News commentator, rightwhitewingnut, dominionist, theocrat, and likely candidate for the Repugnican nomination in 2012, goes off to Israel.

While he's in Israel, he "slams" the president of the United States, Barack Obama! Huckabee is a big fan of Israel building more settlements in what have been traditionally Palestinian areas.

The U.S. shouldn't tell Israelis where to live, said Mr. Bigmouth Mike.

There are several things about Mr. Huckabee and this trip that need to be made clear. One is the Huckabee is a christianist whose interest in Israel is tied to his christianist claptrap about the end-times. He believes that to be saved and live forever with his god, one has to have a personal conversion experience and accept Jesus into his/her heart and become a fundamentalist christianist.

ALL other people will burn forever in a terrible fire of hell!

That means, ladies and gentlemen, that all the Israelis which Huckabee claims should build wherever the hell they want to, will spend eternity being burned alive by the loving god of his lord jesus christ! Well, his lord jesus christ is really god, so it's jesus christ's fault that they'll burn in hell.

Except that jesus christ was a Jew and not a christianist! Which also means that god is a Jew and not a christianist! Holy crap!

Oops. I got off on a bit of a tangent there. Suffice it to say that Huckabee's concern for Israelis is not because he gives a damn about them except as they play a role in his morbid end-times theological scenario.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from his trip to Israel is that Huckabee is a hypocrite writ large!

Secondly, it should be noted, that he is a political figure publicly denouncing the president of the United States for what he perceives is a wrong position with regard to Israel settlements.

Who cares what Huckabee thinks about anything? Mike Huckabee has no credibility! Yet here he is, deliberately trying to cripple the president's ability to conduct foreign policy. This has been done by creepos in both parties, but I guess, with Huckabee being a southerner, it's OK because Obama is, you know, of mixed racial descent and not only so, but is a damn Democrat!

However, when Democrats dared critique Georgi Bush's policies while outside of the United States, the entire Repugnican right-white-wing had a collective hissy fit! (See Glenn Greenwald's article of August 17 at Salon.com.)

Thirdly, and isn't this interesting: Huckabee's little foray into Israeli territory and U.S. foreign policy was sponsored by (read "paid for") by an outfit called Ateret Cophanim. This organization, according to McClatchy, "buys land in Jerusalem's Arab neighborhoods and settles Jews there."

But, it gets worse: "According to a report published Monday in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the tax-deductible funds raised by Ateret Cohanim in the United States for educational purposes are used instead to buy land."

To put it straight: Huckabee, is a paid hack for an outfit that is deceptive and possibly in violation of U.S. law.

Why is it that so many christianists are so damn scummy?

Conversation with Yahweh

Health Care Hypocrites by Rachel Maddow

If you never see another video or read another story about the so-called health care debate, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO!

There is no end to right wing hypocrisy and as I've said before, no end to the stupidity of the American people who believe what right wingers say about anything!

Palin slays her own straw man - Keith Olbermann

The crazies are out of control

1) During the Bush administration, internment camps were considered for "terrorists" or suspected terrorists. No one on the right wing had a damn thing to say.

Now, because of a complete innocuous ad posting by the military for "Internment/Resettlement Specialists" to work with war prisoners, the kookaberries on the right are up in arms claiming, according to Media Matters, that this is a conspiracy to "'round up American citizens' into 'internment camps.'"

It's all bullshit, of course, but that matters not to the stupids on the right who will do or say literally anything to help President Obama "fail."

Patriots they are not!

2) Any regular reader of this blog will be familiar with the name, Paul Broun. Broun is a Repugnican representative from Georgia. He is a true, certified wacko, who proves that statement every time he opens his mouth. Not long ago, being a "good" christianist, he tried to stop our military folks from having access to such terrible pornographic magazines as Playboy and Penthouse.

Why do you suppose these so-called preachers of freedom keep wanting to take away freedom from other people?

Now, Broun is running around suggesting that the United States is on the verge of "martial law." Yup. According to Steve Benen at the Washington Monthly, Broun told his constituents that we have in Washington a "'socialistic' elite; -- Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed -- who might use a pandemic disease or natural disaster as an excuse to declare martial law."

"They're trying to develop an environment where they can take over," said Broun, aka Mr. Stupid. "We've seen that historically," said Broun, aka Mr. Stupid, even more stupidly!

That's not all. Mr. Stupid Broun also warned that "a public option in our health care system is 'gonna kill people." And last year he said that his fear was "Obama might establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship on Americans. He added at the time that Obama reminds him of Hitler."

The fact that Hitler was violently opposed to Marxism seems not to have entered Mr. Stupid's head during his years of not learning anything.

This, my friends, is a member of the U.S. Congress, a believer in Jesus. If that doesn't scare the crap out of you, nothing will! What rock do these creeps crawl out from under?

3) The so-called Town Hall meetings. Brownshirts (or maybe Brounshirts) egged on by the moneyed interests and the insurance industry (and too stupid to know it), have done everything they can do break up these town hall meetings and destroy any chance for reasonable debate.

P.M. Carpenter calls these clowns "the cranks and crackpots of that shrinking GOP base..." Carpenter, also says, rightly, "...it's really quite stunning: the squalid hypocrisy, the petty religiosity, the fierce ignorance, the absolute refusal to acknowledge even the most profoundly verifiable wrongs or grant the inexorability of the most profoundly needed improvements -- that's the modern Republican Party for you."

4) And of course, there's the "death panels," so eloquently described by the moose shooter from Alaska. Which don't exist, never have existed, never will exist. But, she hauls out her down syndrome child and whines that Obama wants to deny the poor child his right to live...and also wants to kill her grandparents!

5. Glenn Greenwald has noted that on August 6, Rush Limbaargh compared Obama to Hitler and Nancy Pelosi to Nazi leaders. Nobody even noticed.

Back in January 2004, Moveon.org was involved in some 30-second ads, one of which compared Georgi Bush to Adolf Hitler.

The right wing fruits and the MSM went crazy! How dare they? That's terrible? The RNC chair at the time the ad was "the worst and most vile form of political hate speech."

Today, not a word. But then Obama is of mixed racial descent. If you haven't noticed, the right wing consists mainly of racists.

But Obama's not a Nazi. Bush was not a Nazi either, but his family worked with the Nazis. Where was the MSM on that story? It's verifiable and has been verified. Karl Rove's family worked with the Nazi's, too! Verifiable and verified.

And Bush acted like a Nazi. He really did try to take over the government! Never before in our history has there been such a consolidation of executive power. I guess if a Repugnican acts like a Nazi, it's OK. If a racially-mixed man is president and doesn't act like a Nazi, that's not OK, and that probably means he is a Nazi.

The stupidity is stunning!

Do you understand? This is what passes for Repugnican political theory these days.

6) Finally, and this is not particularly political, but another example of modern greed and stupidity.

I've read the story in a couple of places, but Jim Hightower had the best take on it.

Starbucks "is presently trying to expand through [a] ... bizarre marketing strategy. By disowning its globally ubiquitous brand name."

Huh?

"With Starbucks' sales declining as more and more caffeine consumers reject the cookie-cutter corporate climate that the chain epitomizes, it is launching a new line of stores that disappears its name. There's no corporate signage on the new buildings, no logo stamped on the product inside and none of the generically bland ambiance that makes one Starbucks just like the other 16,000 in the chain."

So, Starbucks is creating new stores which look like old-timey coffeeshops, "dressing them as funky neighborhood coffeehouses with a cool, local vibe. A sort of rustic, thrift-shop decor screens the corporate presence, and such additions as live music and poetry readings are meant to lend an aura of down-home authenticity."

The first one, called "15th Avenue Coffee and Tea" is open in Seattle.

Heh. Heh.

As Hightower suggests, "it's such a goofy fraud that it's doomed to be an embarrassing failure."

Let's hope so.

But then, there is no end to the absolute, utter stupidity of the American people!

Read Jim's entire article here.

Jeb Bush - Right wing non-collectivist

Tucker Carlson recently interviewed 56-year old Jeb Bush at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. The interview appears in the August 2009 issue of Esquire magazine.

Jeb is considered brighter than his brother, Georgi. He is considered more "moderate." Some think he did a good job as governor of Florida.

Actually, he may not be as bright as Georgi. He is anything but moderate and is, in fact, way off on the far right wing of the Repugnican party. As a Floridian, I can say that, with a few exceptions, he was a miserable governor.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

Things are not going too well for the Republicans these days, says Jeb. Especially among minorities. And there are more minorities. Plus, the Dems have done a good job of registering voters, using, you know, "Acorn and the like." So "Hispanics have turned toward the Democratic party in the last two election cycles. Big time. ... you can see a trend that's quite disturbing."

Tucker asked how a Republican can come out against illegal immigration and not alienate Hispanics.

It's hard, admitted Jeb. But you have to talk nicer. Can't rant and rage. "...it requires a tone that's different."

Uh, huh! Like Hispanics will run to your side because you talk softly and not notice you're carrying a big stick?

Then Jeb was asked about Rush Limbaugh. I guess Jeb's afraid of Rush, too, like every other Repugnican. He said, "Rush Limbaugh is a hugely importance force for the conservative movement. ... I feel happy for Rush to get all this attention. He's one part of a mosaic of people and thought in the conservative movement. I don't think you can discount his importance."

Heh, heh! Not that Rush Limbaugh is a oxycontin-addicted moron whose rhetoric is dividing the country and creating a culture of hatred and violence toward anyone who is not a brainless twit! Oh, no. Jeb avoided the truth like a rat running from a cat.

Throughout the interview, Jeb's main theme, which he referred to numerous times was this: "Conservatives can win, can draw people toward our cause with the proper language and the proper ideas. I don't think that conservatism has been rejected in the United States. I don't believe it."

The problem is that conservatives have lost their way. Conservatism needs to go back to good ol' Ronnie Reagan. Jeb's a big fan of Ronnie. Ronnie knew what it was all about! Ronnie embodied Republican "timeless principles."

A sub-theme that also repeats through the interview is that the Republicans didn't lose the last presidential election because his brother made a horrible mess of the presidency and/or that Republicans had no original ideas to present to the American people, but because they used the wrong "tactics."

Yup. It boils down to a matter of tactics! "The Democrats won on tactics," says Jeb. In fact, Obama was a great big phony! "Barack Obama would not have gotten elected if he'd let us in on his secret plan prior to the election." That's right. Obama had this secret plan to create a huge deficit as part of his "government-subsidized health care policy," and "a massive cap-and-trade system [based on the idea] that CO2 is [a] pollutant and we need to tax it in a massive way to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions."

Oh, and Obama painted McCain as one who would raise taxes and that was "unfair."

So, it was Obama's and the Dem's dirty tactics that won them the election. In fact, says, Jeb, "We ... have lost the last two elections in terms of the tactics. In terms of the mechanics of politics, the tactics of politics, the Democrats have cleaned our clock. ... "

The problem, says Jeb, is that the Republicans haven't "upgraded" or "updated" their message. The Repugs, says Jeb, have to get creative.

And what is that message? Aha. It has something to do with education and health care, energy and the environment. He doesn't say just what, though. But big government is bad, bad, bad. And taxes for the rich should be reduced.

Oh, there's another part of the message: we can't be sure about global warming. "I'm a skeptic," says Jeb. "I think the science has been politicized." [It sure has, but by his brother and company, not by the Dems!] And to show this guy really isn't one of the sharper knives in the drawer he says, "It [global warming] may be only partially man-made. It may not be warming by the way. The last six years we've actually had mean temperatures that are cooler."

There's always gay marriage and abortion, too. No changes there. The Repugs got it right. No to both! But they didn't lose the presidential election on those issues, anyway. They lost it on economics. Yup. And McCain was much more qualified to be president than Obama. McCain just couldn't connect with the people. He couldn't communicate the Republican's "timeless principles."

Who does Jeb identify with in the Republican Party these days? Well, Newt Gingrich for one. (Maybe 'cause they're both converts to the Roman Catholic church?) But "Newt is fantastic," says Jeb. And there's a mayor in St. Petersburg who's pretty good. And the governor of Indiana. And "I love Bobby Jindal. (Another Catholic convert!) He's the real deal."

What does Jeb think of Obama, whom he's never met? Tucker asks Jeb if he thinks Obama is a socialist. "I don't know. Define socialism for me. It's a word ... I believe he's a collectivist. He believes that through collective action, through government, you can solve more problems."

"I don't know"????? What kind of answer is that? "Collectivist"? Does that not have a Soviet/KGB ring to it????

And what the hell is the government supposed to do if it isn't about solving problems? The government isn't some entity "out there." We are the government; and the government works for us. It has the job of helping us life safe and productive lives! That's what we elect our representatives to do.

Of course, Jeb and the Repugnicans don't see it that way. The government in their opinion should be just big enough to take care of the corporations that bribe the legislators and other members of the government.

That's another "timeless" Repugnican principle!

Whatever else one wants to say about Jeb Bush, one must say he is a corporatist just like his brother Georgi. He believes in unfettered capitalism. He hasn't gotten the message yet that unfettered capitalism damn near destroyed this country and that if his brother had not turned "socialist" we might never have recovered!

Well, he did say Georgi's bailouts were good. Obama's, not so good.

Jeb is also a rightwing christianist who has no problem making common cause with the fundamentalist Protestant groups. He thinks public education is not doing the job, so when governor of Florida he wanted to take funds away from public schools and give the money to private (read religious) schools in the form of vouchers. That didn't work, but he sure gave it the old college try.

He also thinks "Intelligent Design" or "Creationism" should be taught in public school science classes as an alternative to evolution.

In Florida he hired a private outfit to run at least part of the prison system. That has not worked out too well.

He failed utterly in his educational agenda for the state and left Florida in dire financial straits, one reason being his dismantling of certain taxes paid by the well-to-do.

Jeb Bush believes in the God of Abraham and he loves Jesus and he became a Roman Catholic (his wife was Catholic) and has no problem with the state (public money) supporting religious institutions. He also believes that the abortion is wrong and gay marriage is wrong. Those are all part of what he calls the "timeless principles" of the Republican party.

Another timeless principle or "time-tested practice" is to cut taxes and cut spending. You know, like Reagan didn't do, nor did Jeb's father, nor did Georgi, his brother! Big spenders, all. The difference is that the corporatists made out like bandits and the rest of the people got the shaft. Now, there's a timeless Republican principle!

In summary, Jeb Bush's "timeless principles" are the same failed Repugnican policies that have brought out country to its knees. He has no new ideas. He uses the same old language. It's to be expected, of course, but all I can say is: Boo!

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Common Sense

I've got a prescription for this donkey group that calls itself the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine: One great big dose of COMMON SENSE at least twice a day!

This is the group that has put up posters in Washington's Union Station referencing the Obama girls. It shows a picture of a young black girl with a smug smirk, whining: "President Obama's daughters get healthy school lunches. Why don't I?"

Now, I don't care if this group has the seal of approval from God herself. Such posters are just plain stupid.

The White House asked that the posters be taken down and that the privacy of the Obama daughters be respected. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called it a "publicity stunt."

Two White House lawyers got into the act and requested that Neal Barnard, M.D., who heads the PCRM, remove the posters.

Barnard said no way. Healthy school lunches are very important to this country, claims Barnard, "and it would be ridiculous to back away."

But it matters not whether his cause is good or just. The fact is the PCRM used the Obama daughters in a blatant attempt to get publicity for the organization and their "cause." Barnard called the Washington Post and being part of the corporate MSM, the Post jumped on it. Then Bernard went on "Inside Edition" and CNN.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Once again, we must remind these fruitcakes on the right (I'm assuming here that Bernard is a Repugnican and a rightwinger and probably opposes Obama's health plan) that THE ENDS DO NOT JUSTIFY THE MEANS! They just never seem to get that!

And there's also this thing about respecting the presidency. It is one thing to report that the Bush's adult (if yet underage) daughters are involved in partying and drinking in downtown Austin when in fact they were partying and drinking in an Austin bar, and it is quite another to use the two young daughters of President Obama in a blatant attempt to generate publicity for your particular cause.

Maybe if the president happens to be racially mixed you don't have to respect his wishes or the suggestions of the White House Press Secretary or White House lawyers.

Maybe Barnard should give himself that dose of COMMON SENSE immediately so he doesn't relapse into disrespect and stupidity.

"I want my America back!" said the Sioux to the white woman.

Keith Olbermann - Palin and the "death panels"

I was going to say that this video is a bit long. But it isn't. It's not long enough! It is one of Mr. Olbermann's finest moments. It is a weighty sermon cresting the undercurrent of fear for our nation's well-being; currently under seige by the corporatists, the nogoodniks and those who are just plain evil.

David Barton - Faux cowboy, faux historian, faux christian

[Photo of David Barton from Time magazine]

Nearly 30 years ago, the so-called Christian Coalition, then headed by the notorious, wacky christianist, Pat Robertson, set out to infiltrate every area of American life with fundy christianists who lived and breathed a vision of the United States as a christianist country ruled by fundamentalist christianists with laws based on certain biblical legal provisions as interpreted by these same fundy christianists.

Robertson urged his minions to become involved at every political level - from school boards and city councils to state and national legislatures - and even the presidency.

They have been remarkably successful in this endeavor and thus just about every community is now engaged in continual battles between fundy theocrats and the U.S. Constitution.

Furthermore, they got Georgi Bush elected! While he's really a faux christianist, he nonetheless did the bidding of his theocratic controllers.

One of the worst of the theocratic bunch is a guy by name of David Barton from the huge city of Aledo, Texas (pop. 2000). Some years ago, when Barton decided that God created the U.S. to be a Christian nation and that the founders were chosen by God to make the U.S. a Christian nation, and that the founders were fundy christianists, he set up an outfit called WallBuilders which really has three main goals: to break down what he believes the "false" wall of separation of church and state in this country; to insinuate his beliefs into society through the public schools; and to establish a theocratic state run by fundy christianists according to what Barton believes to be god's laws.

Barton likes to pretend his is a cowboy. According to Rob Boston, Barton "is a tall man who frequently sports boots, a rodeo shirt and a cowboy hat." But Barton is not a cowboy; he's a fundy teacher from a little bitty Texas town. He's all hat, no cattle. Like Georgi Bush.

Boston notes that Barton is singularly unqualified for just about anything. He "earned a bachelor's degree in 'Christian Education' from Oral Roberts University in 1976 [tee hee - as if that's worth a nickel!] and later taught math and science at a fundamentalist Christian school founded by his father, pastor of Aledo Christian Center."

Such a lack of qualifications has not stopped him from pretending to be an historian. He's been involved in a variety of activities attempting to promote the notion that the concept of separation of church and state is a "myth," and that this nation was founded as a Christian nation. He is also tied into the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, a fundy group working hard to get their fundamentalist version of the Bible taught in public schools.

He's been involved in politics for years, hanging with rightwing nutcases like Newt Gingrich, Bill Frist and Tom DeLay. These days he's working hard to elect christianist rightwing Republicans to public office. Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee are both sucking up to him because unfortunately, among the christianist freaks, Barton swings some weight.

What's really sad is that "respected" institutions seem unable to discriminate between the bad and the worst. So, Time magazine named him one as one of 25 most influential "evangelicals" in 2005. And he's "branching out into other fields - areas where, like history, he has no legitmate credentials. On June 7, 2007, Barton testified before the U.S. Senate's Environmental and Public Works Committee, criticizing global warming and posing as an expert on how evangelicals view that issue."

Today he's working with the Texas State Board of Education (boy, if there ever was an oxymoron that's it!) to insinuate his brand of christian theocracy into social studies textbooks!

It is tempting to write Barton off as just another freaky, christianist clown, but that would be a mistake. He's off and running and he's very dangerous and he does not believe in our country or the U.S. Constitution. He is, to put it mildly, a snake in the grass.

Barton may wear a cowboy hat and cowboy boots, but the only "cowboy" thing about him is that he is full of horseshit!

Please read all of Rob Boston's very important article here.

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican

This is so true. Thanks to Video Cafe at Crooks and Liars

Here's the read-out from Video Cafe:

"A Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican"

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, "We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have".

Palin calls herself evil

Gotcha!

Sarah Palin, being of the devil, didn't call herself evil, she called Barack Obama's health care plan "downright evil."

She said that Obama is setting up a "death panel" and the more needy Americans would be denied health care.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care."

Palin went on: "Such a system is downright evil."

No, that's not true. None of it. What's interesting is that the statement coheres to a degree of which Palin is not capable which means that someone else (the RNC, perhaps) wrote it for her to read.

But Palin is not stupid. Well, she is stupid. But she isn't so damn stupid that she doesn't know that everything she said is false! She knows good and well that there is no "death panel" in the health care plan, nor is a there a provision for bureaucrats deciding who's worthy of health care.

What that means is that Palin is herself, the embodiment of evil: A cipher, a clone of the far right wacky whiners who care nothing for truth but only for power. Some have suggested that she is being groomed by religious fanatics who expect God will place her in the White House so that she can establish their version of heaven on earth ruled by God's law as they interpret it.

It's time we tell it like it is. Obviously, she has a certain amount of support from the nogoodniks and the dumbest of our society. But there is no way this woman should be even close to any political office. She cares nothing for truth.

More importantly, she repudiates the American system every time she opens her mouth. What happened to the very American idea that we are one society, even though we may disagree about certain things? What happened to the very American idea that we should support our president to the best of our ability? And while we may not agree with everything our president does, we do not deliberately spin lies in public in order to bring him down and wreak chaos upon the country!

What happened to the very American idea that we should always tell the truth?

What happened to the very American idea that we should avoid making up things that would divide our country instead of uniting the American people?

Sarah Palin is a divider, not a uniter. She is a liar of the first magnitude. She cares not for her country, no matter what she says, for her actions consistently divide, confuse, and create animosity among its citizens.

Tell it like it is: Sarah Palin is one of the worst persons ever to hold a political office in the United States! She is untruthful, ethically challenged, a religious freak involved in very strange, weird religious scenarios, and she could not run a town, nor a state.

Some think she has a pretty face. But it is the face of intolerance, hatred and division. The fact that so many millions voted for the McCain/Palin ticket should give all of us pause. We are in deep trouble.

Mel Martinez with an attitude

Mel Martinez, senator from Florida, will be resigning his seat and is not going back to Congress at the end of August.

That puts Governor Charlie Crist in the driver's seat: He gets to appoint someone to fill the slot temporarily until he can run for senator himself!

But there's more. What I found interesting was the attitude expressed in a letter Martinez sent out to his supporters. (Remember, Martinez, a Cuban immigrant, while not a rabid Repugnican, has nevertheless been a strong supporter of George W. Bush - his wars and his lies - and pretty much a party hack, following the Repugnican line down the line.)

The way it is supposed to work is that our representatives in Congress see their service as a privilege and not a sacrifice.

Not so with Mr. Martinez. "Twelve years ago," he wrote, "I offered myself as a candidate for public office in Florida out of a deep sense of appreciation for what America and the people of Florida did for me as a young immigrant to this country."

And then, "In 1997, Kitty and I decided it was time to give back and we entered the public arena ... I have gained the greatest respect for the people of Florida and have enjoyed serving their interests."

Notice the sense of sacrifice. Out of this "deep sense of appreciation," he "offered" himself in order to "give back" something or other. He could have gone on making money and gobs of it, but he left all that behind, sacrificing his own personal interests in order to serve the people of Florida.

Bah, humbug! He was privileged to be elected. He was privileged to serve. But Mr. Martinez certainly did not serve my interests or the interests of a good percentage of the people of Florida! He served the interests of the privileged few; the corporations; the war-mongers; those who helped bring on the current crisis!

Methinks there is more to this story. He, like some other Repugnicans of late, is quitting before the end of his term. Why would he do that? He doesn't explain, other than to write pious nonsense about how "it's time I return to Florida and my family."

Hmmm. Really? Could it be that the Dems have their eye on Martinez's seat? Could it possibly be that Martinez was asked to step aside so that Crist could appoint a seat-warmer until he could run himself. Crist remains relatively popular in Florida (mostly because the news media provides almost NO information about whatever the hell Crist is up to; or any other news about what goes on in Tallahassee!) and the Repugs probably figure if Crist runs they will retain that seat.

I'm glad Martinez is going. But as they say, sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

Something's in the wind. It's called Repugnican chicanery. And, as usual, it's wrapped in pious, patriotic claptrap.

Theocrats mired in bullshit in Kissimmee

The following derives from Barbara Hijeck's weblog at the Orlando Sentinel.

If'n you've never heard of Kissimmee, Florida, you should know it is located in the heart of Walt Disney's various theme parks and is surrounded by tons of other, much more tawdry, entertainment venues.

Kissimmee, Florida is pretty much one big street filled with goofy castles, motels, mini-golfs, souvenir shops, restaurants of every type, and places to buy tickets to Disney's theme parks, among other things.

It's a smaller, scruffier version of Orlando.

Kissimmee seems to be run by christianist theocrats these days. Ms. Hijeck tells us that the old city logo (Kissimmee used to be known as the "cow capital of Florida") "featured a Brahman bull" along with "palm trees against a lake and setting sun."

Well, horror of horrors, that city logo lacked something very important, crucial even; a lack that was likely to really piss off the "man upstairs" - it made no reference to the deity of the christianist movement!

So, now, christianist city commissioners, like one Art Otero, want to "incorporate the motto 'In God We Trust'" on the city logo!!!

Yup! Now why would he want to do that in this land of the free and of no official religion; a land which includes people of all or no religions; and in a city in which there are probably lots of Chrsitians who disagree with him, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, and even an atheist or two?

Well, that's easy: Otero wants the city logo changed to include "In God We Trust" because, according to Ms. Hijeck, "he doesn't agree with the direction the country is going under the Obama administration."

Heh. Heh. Unfortunately, this is not funny. Kissimmee citizens have obviously elected at least one brainless moron to the city council. Otero thinks Obama's leading the nation down the wrong path - the path to "homosexuality, gay marriage, abortion and the legalization of marijuana."

It looks like this is a done deal. The city manager is already talking about the process of "carving the phrase into the wooden seal adorning commission chambers." Hell, he's willing to cough up half the cost!

So, I was wrong. Kissimmee has elected several brainless morons to its city council and has a brainless moron for a city manager!

Good god, don't these people read history? Have any of them ever looked at the U.S. Constitution? They should all be impeached for violating their oath of office and the Constitution!

Or maybe they've been walking in bullshit for so long they think their shit don't stink!

Crooks in power or Connecting the dots on health care opposition by Rachel Maddow

Sometimes Rick Sanchez gets it right

The people - screwed on health care reform

There's an article in Business Week. It's title is: The Health Insurers Have Already Won: How UnitedHealth and rival carriers, maneuvering behind the scenes in Washington, shaped health-care reform for their own benefit."

Here's a quote:

The industry has already accomplished its main goal of at least curbing, and maybe blocking altogether, any new publicly administered insurance program that could grab market share from the corporations that dominate the business. UnitedHealth has distinguished itself by more deftly and aggressively feeding sophisticated pricing and actuarial data to information-starved congressional staff members. With its rivals, the carrier has also achieved a secondary aim of constraining the new benefits that will become available to tens of millions of people who are currently uninsured. That will make the new customers more lucrative to the industry.

This is a fascinating and horrendous look at how we, the people, get screwed and don't even know it! Talk about date rape!

Jesus prophesied Obama is the anti-Christ

Dan Florien at Unreasonable Faith posted this video on his blog, expressing at the same time his amazement that anyone would take something like this seriously.

Here you will find a biblical moron who likes to play with words, who hates Obama and has figured out a way to mess with the biblical literature to come up with the idea that Jesus prophesied Obama is the anti-Christ.

Please note: NONE of what he says has any validity whatsoever!

Like I've said many times before, the Bible is a very dangerous collection of ancient scribblings. Put it in the wrong hands and you'll end up with hatred, violence, sexual perversion, slavery, prejudice, character assassination, wars without end, and not least, the proliferation of religions that deny science, reason and truth. One might even conclude that Obama is the anti-Christ!

Critics suggest ... and duly reported by the idiots in the media

[John Cronyn photo from Chron.com]

This is an AOL headline: "Critics suggest White House is compiling 'enemies' list."

Yup, that's what "critics" suggest. Let's see, tomorrow critics will suggest that Obama is going to kill your grandma. Oh, wait, that's already been suggested. OK. So maybe critics will suggest that Obama was really born in Kenya. Oops, that's already been done, too. How 'bout this: critics suggest Obama plans to confiscate all privately-owned guns. Nah, that was in the NRA ad I just got in the mail!

Well, critics will suggest something, that's for sure. And the news media will report that critics suggested whatever it is they suggest, and some people, dumber than stumps, will say, "Oh, I just knew it! Happens everytime we get a black man from Kenya in the White House!"

The "enemies" list. Seems that there was a suggestion on the White House blog that if people get some strange crap in their e-mail boxes, they might let the Obama people know, because there is so much of this insanity, the Obama folks can't keep up with it all. And when people are out to get you, it's better to know than not to know.

Aha! An enemies list! Yes! Just like Tricky Dick! Oh, wait the dick that was tricky was a Repugnican. Really? Is that possible? A crook, too? Yup! But he loved Jesus.

So Sen. John Cornyn, a Repugnican from Texas, loves Jesus, too, and he's received word from on high somewhere that "Obama wants to do more than just keep track of the debate." Big Bad John (that's what Cornyn likes to call hisself!) knows Obama's up to something dastardly. "It is inevitable that the names, email addresses, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported to the White House." Heh. Heh. Right! The White House is concerned about the "private speech of U.S. citizens." When someone like Cornyn makes such a statement, you don't see it as a condemnation of the Obama White House but a condemnation of John Cornyn and his ilk, for that's the first thing in their minds and exactly what they would do and indeed, have done!

But where was Big Bad John when the Bush administration was willfully and flagrantly violating the United States Constitution and the laws of this country by illegally spying on American citizens? Why didn't this Lone Star dipshit complain about that?

Cornyn, as we said, loves Jesus and he claims he's doing the Lord's work for Texas which means he'll no doubt fight any attempt to stop global warming, want to post the Ten Commands in courthouses around the country, and git rid of thet terrible evolution stuff in our public schools.

He also said recently that we needed the F-22's because we might need to bomb India. Heh. Heh.

Methinks he's been wading knee-deep in Texas horseshit for so long he can't smell anything wrong with the stench coming out of his mouth!

Here's the link to the AOL article, which I hesitate to publicize for AOL is usually indistinguishable from FAUX news and that's true of the overall tone of this essay, also...Oh, hell, wash your hands after reading! Linky here.

Watch this video from his 2008 campaign for re-election to the Senate. Big Bad John! Heh, heh. What a moron!

Healthcare and lying right wing bastards!

At Salon.com, by Mike Madden, you will find an excellent article titled "Obama wants to kill your grandma," which deals with "Five right-wing myths about health care reform, and the facts."

But, before we get into that, we must declare it is true: that Corporate America is embossing every rational discussion as to how to heal our country with unmitigated hate; that the mainstream media, now almost wholly-owned by Corporate America, is on the front line of the increasingly vitriolic and racist attacks on President Obama; that the Republican Party has no moral core and acts consistently in unethical ways; that the right-wingers in this country are perpetrators of evil as seen in the corporate sponsorship of the so-called "tea party" anti-tax protests and the more current violent protests at political town hall meetings; that in the debate about health care reform, the right wing, scripted by their corporate masters, has consistently lied about the content and intent of the suggested reforms; that the conservative movement has no soul, is crowned with self-interest, is incapable of speaking the truth, and will bring down the country in order to regain power.

On to health care reform. There are five myths being promoted by Corporate America and its minions relative to health care reform. Actually, the word, "myth," is not strong enough. How about "bold-faced lies" or "straight-out fabrications" or "evil distortions of the truth"?

Here are the five:

1. Democrats want to kill your grandmother.
2. The government -- i.e., you -- will have to pay for abortions.
3. Obama will ban all private health insurance.
4. The government can't possibly run a healthcare program.
5. Unlike private insurance, government bureaucrats will ration care.

If someone begins to spout the above crap, you may, in good conscience, walk away because that person is a no-good, rotten son-of-a-bitch who cares nothing for the truth.

For all the details, please read Madden's article here.

Yahweh's Delicious Creation

Dick Armey - A pretentious fool driven by greed and blessed by God

Dick Armey is a Repugnican from Texas. He was at one time the House Majority Leader in the U.S. Congress.

He's always been a slime bucket, but these days he's outdoing his previous reputation. No longer a U.S. Congressman (thank the gods!), he is part and parcel of the corporatists who would destroy the world to make a buck.

According to Lee Fang at Think Progress (via AlterNet), Armey, after leaving Congress, "became a lobbyist for the firm DLA Piper, which represents many interests with a stake against curbing greenhouse gas emissions. ... "

He also "became the head of Citizens for a Sound Economy, a right-wing front group funded largely by oil companies like ExxonMobil. CSE later morphed into the astroturf organization known as FreedomWorks, which Army has used to orchestrate the viscious anti-Obama tea party rallies. ... "

On July 30, the Republicans in Congress held a bicameral hearing on climate change legislation. Armey, "Along with a cadre of polluter CEOs and Chamber of Commerce officials ... played his part leveling an array of attacks on any effort to transition to a clean energy economy."

This is not unexpected, but par for the course. Smarmy Armey, though, being a good christianist and lover of Jesus, said (and this so ludicrous it leaves one breathless) that "because God created the heavens and the Earth, it would be 'quite pretentious' for people to believe God would permit global warming to even occur ..."

After accusing those attempting to deal with the problem of climate change of becoming involved in "an eco-evangelical hysteria" and suggesting that "we are becoming a national of environmental hypochondriacs," this double dipped moron concluded with this "profound" statement:

"Let me say I take it as an article of faith if the lord God almighty made the heavens and the Earth, and he made them to his satisfaction and it is quite pretentious of we little weaklings her on earth to think that, that we are going to destroy God's creation. [...]"

Smarmy Armey would make an atheist out of most people.

Fake conservative protests by Rachel Maddow

Erik Prince of Blackwater a murderer?

This is from Newshoggers.com

Erik Prince, for those who have never heard of him, runs the highly secretive militarist guns-for-hire Blackwater organization. Blackwater has made tons of money in Iraq, among other places, and under the Bush administration got pretty much whatever it wanted and avoided punishment for its dirty deeds.

Newsblogger quotes from an article by Jeremy Scahill at The Nation:

"A former Blackwater employee and an ex-US Marine who has worked as a security operator operative for the company have made a series of explosive allegations in sworn statements filed on August 3 in federal court in Virginia. The two men claim that the company's owner, Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince 'views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe,' and that Prince's companies 'encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life.'"

Other charges include "smuggling weapons into Iraq" - that is to say, "transporting 'illegal' or 'unlawful' weapons into the country on Prince's private planes."

The first thing that hits me is how money not only corrupts but money combined with the power money gives, corrupts absolutely.

In addition, Prince claims to be a born-again Christian. I don't know if he's affiliated with C Street, but it would fit. He appears to be an elitist commissioned by his god to rule the world and thus is not bound by the law or by what is considered normal human behavior.

Scahill's entire article can be read here. And there is much, much more, including the fact that Bush imposed "gagging orders preventing investigation of the wrongdoings of 70 major companies involved in Iraq ... "

There's another story here (which is where I obtained the above photo).

Rachel Maddow on GOP Thugs

One of the things that has become crystal clear in recent years is that the GOP, by and large, is a party comprised of amoral, often immoral, and even more often, ignorant thugs, many of which dress up in suits and ties and some, like Coulter and Malkin, in short skirts.

We know they don't care about family values by watching their behavior. We know they don't care about the American people by listening to their speeches. We know they are a bunch of thugs that will resort to just about any deviancy in order to win by experiencing what Ms. Maddow is talking about. Many of them are religious thugs but their religion is a sham.

The Collectible Jesus

The Florida Family Policy Council - the rightwing at work

It has always amazed me how so-called "conservatives" strive mightily to enforce their religious and political views on the body politic.

Conservatives had traditionally held that "big government" is bad and that the government should stay out of people's personal lives. But they don't mean that. That's a smoke screen. The think big government is just fine so long as it is controlled by conservatives and the churches and corporations they represent. And they don't see anything wrong with the government telling people what to do relative to marriage, abortion, sexual activity, education, and religion.

There is an outfit in Florida that we've mentioned before called the Florida Family Policy Council. Aligned with both James Dobson's wingnut group, Focus on the Family as well as the Roman Catholic Church and the goofy Christian Coalition, it is headed up by a rightwingnut lawyer named John Stemberger.

Last year Stemberger and the Florida Family Policy Council were major players in the effort to get an anti-gay marriage amendment added to Florida's constitution. This year Stemberger and company want the government to hike the marriage license fee in order to force couples to get pre-marital counseling.

It now costs $93.50 for a Florida marriage license. Stemberger wants the Florida legislature to bump that to $193.50. The kicker is that if a couple agrees to go through eight hours of pre-marital counseling, the fee would drop back to a mere $61.00.

So, religious rightwingnut Stemberger, a conservative very "concerned" with the state of traditional marriage wants "big government" to enact a policy which would essentially force couples intending to marry into an eight-hour pre-marital counseling class. Or if they chose not to go to counseling, they would pay an extra $132.00!

Fascinating.

This moron doesn't understand several things. One is that the government should have no say in the marriage business whatsoever. Period. And that means the government should never charge a fee for a couple to get married. Nothing! Nil! Nada! It two people want to get married, let them seek a clergy or a friend and recite their vows. They can then register their marriage with the state if they so desire.

Secondly, as someone who was involved in pre-marital counseling for years, I can say unequivocally, by the time a couple decides to get married, "counseling" is irrelevant. Counseling rarely makes a difference at that point. When "love" is in the air, all other considerations are ignored or pushed into the subconscious.

Third, who the hell does Stemberger think he is to push his particular religious and political viewpoints on the people of Florida?

Stemberger also is fighting the teaching of evolution in Florida schools. He wants Florida's high school students to be taught that the mythological stories in Genesis are historically true accounts as to how the world was created.

Watch the video below and see how slimy, smarmy religious crap slithers through Stemberg's rightwingnut political "concerns." It's scary. And even more frightening is the fact that there are thousands of Stembergs all over the country working to force the rest of us to adhere to their religious/political views. All in the name of God and goodness, of course.

Bill Maher & Malkin's new book

I've always thought Michelle Malkin a low-class, nogoodnik, rightwing nutcase who wraps herself in God and the flag even as she stomps all over truth and goodness wherever she goes.

Now, it has been proven she's a no-class, nogoodnik, rightwing nutcase who wraps herself in God and the flag even as she stomps all over truth and goodness wherever she goes.

She has concluded, after six months in office, that President Obama is presiding over a "culture of corruption," and wrote a book about it. Well, it is more likely that she along with other rightwing nutcases collaborated and that the book was probably written even before Obama took the presidential oath, which, if you recall, a Bush-appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice screwed up.

How low will the Malkins of the world sink? There is, my friends, no bottom to the pit of darkness into which they have descended.

In this video, Bill Maher mocks Ms. Malkin, along with a few others on the side of evil.

Hagee plus Hitler, the half-Jew. Heh. Heh.

Oh, Reverend Hagee, you're so cute, you with the porky chops and slick-backed hair! And you say they funniest things! Hitler was a half-Jew. That's really funny! You're such a great Bible scholar, I'll bet you found that in your Old Testament, didn't you? What a guy! God's guy! Yup! No wonder so many thousands of the ignorant and naive come to hear you preach!

And you write books, too. I even have one of them. Not one of your best, I have to say. I know you don't drink (much) but I think you were probably smashed when you wrote it...ah, let's see, oh yes, Jerusalem Countdown. Out to lunch on that one, Johnny!

You remember Bruce Wilson? He's one of those guys over at talk2action who like to point out what an asshole you really are! Yeah, and now he's got a new article telling not only how in Jerusalem Countdown did you claim that "Hitler and the Nazis were divine agents sent by God to chase Europe's Jews toward Palestine," but you also said something else, something worse, that our lackadaisical media missed.

Sheesh, Johnny, I'm sure you knew this was a crock when you said it, but I also know you're good at making things up and convincing people that you not only believe it but that they should, too.

You said, Johnny, that "Adolf Hitler was born from a lineage of accursed, genocidally murderous 'half-breed' Jews."

Oh, Johnny. You really are full of crap.

Mr. Wilson has a lot more info, including the fact the people can read your insane ramblings on page 149 of your idiotic, moronic, hateful and ridiculously stupid book. You really have a fantastic imagination. Pretty soon you'll be claiming Hitler was related to Esau, even though biblical scholars know there was no Esau, that the story of Esau and Jacob was an old tribal tale lacking historical authenticity.

Omigod! That's what you did! You said "Adolf Hitler was a distant descendant of Esau." You wrote that right there on page 149.

Heh. Heh. Oh, Johnny, how could you be so wrong. Everyone knows that its those red-headed people who are distant descendants of Esau, and it's almost always red-headed people who do the bad stuff in the world, like starting wars, making castor oil, allowing George Bush (either one) to be elected, breeding Glenn Beck, not short circuiting Rush Limbaargh...

In fact, according to "many biblical scholars working in San Antonio, Texas, in a little room at the back of the Alamo, Hitler was really a red head, but dyed his hair with shoe black!"

I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Holy crap! That means, maybe, possibly, perhaps, Hitler really was a distant descendant of the non-existent Esau?

Well, I've got better things to do than point out to people what a stupe you are, Johnny, so I'm gonna quit now.

But folks can read Mr. Wilson's entire article here.
